We want your ring to fit perfectly while preserving its design and durability. Our professional ring resizing services ensure your ring feels just right. However, not all rings can be resized, and every ring has limits to how much it can be safely adjusted. Here's everything you need to know about resizing options, limitations, and alternatives when resizing isn’t possible.
Ring resizing ensures a comfortable fit, promoting customer satisfaction and confidence in our services. However, resizing is not always possible for every ring or metal, and some designs are more challenging to alter. By offering professional resizing, we ensure your ring fits beautifully while balancing the structural integrity of the piece. For rings that cannot be resized, we offer alternative solutions to ensure your comfort.
Resizing limitations depend on the ring’s design and material. Here are some examples:
Silver & Yellow Gold: These softer metals are easier to resize.
Platinum: This metal requires specialised tools and laser technology for resizing, due to its high melting point. Laser technology ensures there are no visible join marks.
White Gold: After resizing, white gold must be re-plated with rhodium to restore its bright finish.
Rose Gold: Due to the high copper content, rose gold is more prone to cracking during resizing, making it more challenging to adjust.
Stainless Steel, Titanium, Tungsten: These materials are extremely hard and are generally not resized due to the difficulty and potential damage involved.
If resizing isn't feasible, we offer several alternative solutions:
Sizing Beads: Small beads can be added inside the ring to slightly reduce the size, providing a comfortable fit without permanent resizing.
Ring Clips: Temporary clips can be fitted to adjust the size without altering the ring itself.
Remounting: For more significant size changes, stones can be remounted into a new setting or ring style, especially for solitaires or three-stone rings.
Special Orders: If the required size is not available and resizing isn’t possible, we can order a ring made specifically for you in the correct size.
Resizing Client-Owned Rings: If you wish to resize your own ring, we will inspect it closely for any existing damage, wear, or previous repairs. Our jewellers will then advise you on whether resizing is possible and safe for your ring.
The process of resizing depends on whether the ring is being made larger or smaller:
Resizing Up: To enlarge the ring, we either stretch the metal (for small adjustments) or add extra material to the band. The added metal is then polished to blend seamlessly with the rest of the ring.
Resizing Down: To reduce the size, a small section of the band is removed, and the ring is soldered back together. It is then polished to ensure no visible join marks, keeping the ring looking pristine.
